(a chapter from my book, Facing Change)
I want to live a life that engages with God’s might and abilities, breaking through my personal and human limitations and escaping the limitations of skin, flesh, and bones. Our senior pastor speaks to the soul of our church every month in a Leadership Vision Night. After each breakthrough we have had with the Lord, the pastor constantly challenges us to keep looking at what’s coming next and not draw back. We have to keep moving forward, running the race to God’s onward and upward call. [Proverbs 15:24 NKJV, Romans 8:28-30 NIV, Romans 8:37 NIV]
Sometimes, God takes us through the “sound barrier” to reach the next level. You might have heard the stories of Chuck Yaeger, the first man to fly through the sound barrier. He described increasing turbulence as he approached the sound barrier until the aircraft felt like it was breaking up and about to fall apart. But there is serene peace when Chuck Yaeger pushes through the sound barrier. Everything is calm, and he is flying faster than the speed of sound. Sometimes, our life might be falling apart in a mighty turbulence, but if God is leading, everything’s all right. We are just flying through the sound barrier.
